Johnson, a librarian at the U. of Minnesota and editor of , has written a lucid text on the basic concepts of this broad subject. Theoretical concepts are included but not stressed as heavily as information and skills. An initial chapter provides the history of collection management and development and gives a succinct overview of the field. Subsequent chapters describe topics that include organization and staffing, budgets and planning, marketing, electronic resources, and cooperative collection development and management. A case study and exercise, as well as list of selected readings conclude each chapter.
